2. Hosting and security
Our server processes connection data, including your IP address, to deliver the website. Hosting is provided on a server at Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in providing a reliable and secure service.
Our origin server’s access log records time, a predefined page category, HTTP method, response status, response size and duration. It does not record visitor IP addresses, browser identifiers, referrers or URL parameters. Technical error and security logs may include IP addresses and requested URLs when errors occur. Origin server logs rotate daily and are removed within 15 days. Evidence needed to investigate a specific security incident may be retained for its resolution.
Cloudflare
We use the reverse proxy of Cloudflare, Inc., USA, for delivery and protection against attacks. Cloudflare processes IP addresses, requested URLs, HTTP headers and connection data; form values submitted without JavaScript also pass through the proxy. The basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (secure, reliable operation). Processing outside the EEA, including in the USA, is possible. Cloudflare’s data processing terms describe international transfer safeguards, including EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Its privacy policy covers its own processing and retention; our 15-day limit applies only to our origin logs.
3. Calculator and shared links
With JavaScript enabled, calculations run in your browser. Entered numbers are not sent to our statistics service. Without JavaScript, the form sends values to our server for calculation; the application does not store them. A shared comparison link includes your values in the URL fragment after #. Anyone receiving the link can read those values. The fragment is not sent to the server during a normal page request.
4. Anonymous usage counts
We count page requests, calculator actions and share actions as daily totals per page and event type only. There are no user identifiers, cookies, fingerprints or session profiles. Inputs, IP addresses and browser identifiers are not stored in these counters. Requests are not unique visitors and may include automated traffic. Totals help improve the service and are analysed in our internal SiteCore system. The legal basis for necessary technical processing is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Anonymous totals are retained for comparisons over time.
Optional Matomo analytics
Only with your consent, we use our self-hosted Matomo at eins.goingelectric.de to measure page views and “calculate” and “share” actions. Data includes page path and title, time, masked IP address and technical information derived from the browser’s user-agent. The last two IP-address bytes are masked before storage; Matomo sets no tracking cookies and browser-feature detection is disabled. Calculator values, URL parameters, fragments and referrers are not sent as analytics data. Visit counts are technical estimates covering consenting visitors only. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and, where required, Section 25(1) TDDDG.
Matomo raw data is scheduled for automatic deletion after 365 days; aggregate reports are retained for comparisons over time. Withdraw consent anytime using “Analytics settings” in the footer; this does not affect earlier lawful processing. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals prevent tracking. Your explicit choice is stored only in your browser under “evp-analytics-consent-v1” for 180 days, without a user identifier. Storing this preference implements your requested privacy choice (Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG).
5. Cookies and external content
Our application sets no cookies. Local storage is used only for your explicitly chosen analytics preference. Cloudflare may set necessary cookies during security checks; details and lifetimes are listed in Cloudflare’s cookie documentation. Fonts and graphics are served locally. After consent, the Matomo script is additionally loaded from our analytics server identified above. Copying a comparison link writes to your clipboard only after you click the copy button. External links lead to services whose providers are responsible for their own processing.
6. Email contact
If you contact us, we process your email address and message to handle your request, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR or Article 6(1)(b) for contract-related requests. We delete correspondence no longer needed unless a statutory retention requirement applies.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR). Contact the controller above. Anonymous daily totals cannot be associated with an individual.
You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. We do not make automated decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
